Been thinking lately about how there are certain words that seem to be triggers or *dog whistle* that some people hear and immediately like or take offense to, without necessarily even considering what's behind them. A long time ago I took a course in communication and one of the ideas that stuck with me was that two people can be discussing a situation, a picture, a book, etc, but each brings his or her own frame of reference to the conversation. Based on what someone's life was or experiences, or values, one person cannot assume that the other will *see* the situation in precisely the same way as person #1. That's why so many times conversations are difficult if each person doesn't at least attempt to come to some common ground.
