For those of you not paying attention, our candidates for the 17th Congressional District, Chet Edwards, D, and Bill Flores, R, (who had the right idea to question this issue but then changed his tune) are asking us taxpayers to back loans to build nuclear power plants. Are they kidding? As reported last week in the GR Reporter, Chet Edwards is "...trying to put that [taxpayer loan guarantee] in the bill that funds the Afghan war." Pretty low-down and sneaky, if you ask me, but what else is new? Hopefully many of you read Salon's earlier post on the debt crisis Luminant Energy and its parent company is experiencing. Why should my money be put on the line for some financially risky, for-profit venture for another shakey corporation once again?
