Nope. Although, when I read this particular list via What Would Jack Do? I remember thatObama did talk about insurance being mandatory during his campaign. I sort of thought maybe he wouldn't be able to get that pushed through.

    • Forces you to pay up to 8% of your income to private insurance corporations -- whether you want to or not.

    • If you refuse to buy the insurance, you'll have to pay penalties of up to 2% of your annual income to the IRS.

    • Many will be forced to buy poor-quality insurance they can't afford to use, with $11,900 in annual out-of-pocket expenses over and above their annual premiums.

If Obama wasn't pushing the public option, his administration sure made it *seem* like they were. Update: Well, Yes, He Was.-Think Progress

C'mon- Jesus doesn't care about the health care debate. Please.

I am NOT happy with a health insurance reform bill that does NOT support a public option which would put corporate feet to the fire and also allow me to have affordable health insurance that is NOT linked to an employer. I wanted President Obama to bring out the hammer on this one, but he did not. This has disappointed me, however, I will say that Paul Krugman, Nobel Laureate in economics, still claims that the bill does many good things and should be passed, even though we will spend decades improving upon it. Frankly, I'm exhausted and disgusted with it all. The health insurance industry spent $600 million PLUS lobbying our Congress to eliminate the public option. Disgraceful.

We watched him on Jim Lehrer's show last night and there were some good things to come out of this, like preventing people with pre-existing conditions to get locked out of insurance. (Although I'd like to read up on that angle a little today because I no longer take anything any politican of any stripe at face value).

The only answer and it cannot happen as long as the politicians are so entrenched with it, is to get as much money as possible OUT of politics, including limiting lobbying access. Why, though, should those that ride the gravy train in the seats of power want to give up all that?
