Texas Senator Kip Averitt (SD 22) Was Here in Glen Rose Today for a Town Hall Meeting-Sept 2009

The meeting was very well attended; in fact, every seat in the commissioner's courtroom was full and some people were standing on the sides or even in the hallway. I liked very much that he came, that he made the time, even though it was about 2 hours or less, to actually meet with the people he represents, at the county level. He had put an ad in the paper the week before, and it appeared to me that 1/3 to 1/2 of the people there were concerned about Chalk Mountain and TCEQ. I'm going to put up the audio of the meeting for now, in two parts. The first will be Averitt's comments, the second will be the comments and questions from the constituents. Later on I'll also clip some of the video.

UPDATE- Article from Killeen paper about Averitt's town hall that recaps also his basic message, including about the importance of being aware that redistricting is going to take place this next Lege session.

You know, thinking back today, we should have waited for the Mr Averitt to make his promised phone call on his cell phone while we were all together today. You know how it is, you promise to do something and "time" gets away from you or you "forget". I for one would like to see more active concern that our community's concerns for Chalk Mtn are understood at the gov't levels where this battle is really being addressed. Save Chalk Mtn.

@SomervellSally- I'm planning to make a few video clips and repost some I did from recording a couple of previous Save Chalk Mountain meetings, including the one where the crazy idea of putting scotch tape on the sill was broached. Other than that, what, overall, did you think of his meeting? (I was glad at one level that he even HAD one and give him a lot of points for that)

I consider it "interesting" that he kept politically correct in his response yet let us all know about how he feels about the machine Mr Perry runs, that is , in reference to his comments regarding "legacy" that a certain Mr Perry wants to leave in the form of the Corridor. The meeting was rather brief to cover all the issues that the people brought today, I thought. I know you can't go on and on or the rabbit trails become endless, however, there was definitely some energy in the room that was not given enough time to  express itself. I also appreciate the opportunity to meet with the Mr Averitt. I do hope he does not forget that the TCEQ is using scotch tape instead of a monitor in determining if we are all breathing death particles. How ridiculous has this process been! People of Chalk Mtn and Somervell County deserve better control of their county. I am not a ZONING person, but there is something to be said for that approach in these instances.

We were talking about that, too, on the way home, and wondering if he actually would like to see KBH in as governor, but isn't going to jeopardize his job by coming out against Perry. I want to see Perry booted out, sick of him trying to hoodwink people by just calling TTC something else.

I wouldn't go as far as to say Mr Averitt would like to see KBH in there, as much as possibly a Different Republican ...perhaps anyone other than Mr P.

In that, I am in agreement. Perry HAS TO GO.

And besides any Republican with a brain knows that come election time, distance is the best policy from Mr P.

Chalk Mtn has brought to light an antique system concerning quarry and rock crusher regulation. TX is far behind in this area. Too many good ole boys wanted to keep the oil companies happy back in the last century. That time has passed. Responsible oil drilling is suppose to be the new approach. We need the same for the people that would blow up mountains.

Again, as long as we continue demanding more of this material to accomodate our population growth and increased development, then more and more mountains will be blown up.  It's the myth of more and a matter of values.
