Texas House Representatives are not dealing with our urgent issues. Instead lawmakers are playing head games with each other and letting the time run out on the 81 Legislative Session. Please join me in sending a letter to the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives.
See my sample letter below [write your own or feel free to use it as yours]:
Contact Speaker Joe Straus at:
Speaker Straus, you took the job of Speaker with the resolve of getting House members to work together in a bi-partisan manner. If you permit both sides to play "chicken" with Texas lives and tax dollars you have failed to do the job you promised to do.
I am a life-long member of the GOP, but I can not applaud your actions so far as the leader of a House continuing to fall into chaos. This is how it was under former Speaker Tom Craddick's rule. Texans deserve better.
I do not like how the Democrats are acting regarding the Voter ID bill; however, there are more important issues that must be placed first before this political bill.
Please pass the Disabled Veterans Exemption! This is crucial. It is Memorial Day weekend. Is this the way to remember our Veterans? To let the Exemption bill for Disabled Veterans fail?
Also, do NOT approve all these bills to exploit the TTC and toll roads. Texans do NOT want them, we voted against them and we were promised by lawmakers they would NOT pursue the TTC, that it was dead. Apparently, these were lies?
If the GOP really wants the Voter ID bill to be approved then work out a deal with the Democrats.
It is up to you, as the leader of the House to get these adolescent lawmakers to do the jobs they were hired to do.
You have 1 week left to approve and implement resolutions for some of our urgent issues. Please deal with some of them.
Clear heads must rule our House!
Thank you.
Peter Stern
