Families earning up to 300 percent of the national poverty level would be eligible to buy health coverage for their children through the Children’s Health Insurance Fund under legislation the Senate passed Wednesday. That would boost the eligibility beyond the 200 percent above poverty level specified under current law.
Sen. Kip Averitt, R-Waco, said the new families would pay part of the cost of the insurance based on a sliding scale. He said the expansion would bring in additional federal matching dollars.
