As readers know, I have had an only vaguely substantiated feeling that Rose Beck's appearance at Meridian Manor was related to the possible passing of the Somervell Hospital District. Hub and I went down to Meridian a couple of times to record the board meetings and were sorry to see that there was so many problems with managing and selling it.
When reading about Meridan Manor last week in the Bosque County News, the board planned to sell the nursing home to a guy named Steve Lange, who supposedly owned a couple of nursing homes elsewhere in the state except that it turns out he was only leasing from the REAL nursing homes... which had gone bankrupt and sold to new owners. I felt like I was watching a train wreck, and have said repeatedly that the real shame about this is the residents of the nursing home as well as employees do not have a resolution.
So, this week I get my copy of the paper and
Goodall-Witcher is suing Meridian Manor for unpaid therapist bills. Remember that when Rose Beck took over as manager, one of the first things she did was kick GW out.
And it turns out that Rose Beck hasn't even been on the premises since FEBRUARY. Sheesh. what about her contract? And she didn't even collect much of the Medicare she was hired to get! I hope the Meridian board sues her. Looks like once she found someone to get on the hook that she wanted to bail... quick.
Except that the new seller isn't on the hook yet. Despite the fact that Meridian Manor is being sold for a song. (Don't believe me? As Bosque County News points out, it's on the property eval list at $1.8 million. Bu Lange would be busying it for $750,000 of which $250,000 would be paid NOT by him but by the board!!! So really it would cost him $500,000. Except that he doesn't want to cough up the money to pay $25,000 in employee vacay accrual and some $15,000 for other stuff. Let's see $500,000 minus 25,000 minus 15,000 equals $460,000 if my math is right.
If this falls through, there is another buyer that at least seems to own some other nursing homes. ....
