Another of Gov. Perry's former appointees tries to jump up the ladder.

The former Secretary of State wants to become a Texas Senator.

I hate to mention it, but isn't the Secretary of State supposed to prevent voter fraud and secure the integrity of voter machines?

For the years Williams was the Secretary of State I wrote several letters to his attention regarding the lack of voter machine integrity, specifically those manufactured by Diebold.  I carefully outlined the weaknesses in those machines.

Williams simply passed the letter along to one of his workers instead of considering the ramifications of lax oversight.  The state merely accepted the questionable results in a Diebold review regarding such weaknesses that remain inherent in the machines.

In addition, what is needed throughout Texas is a more consistent method and practice of voting.  Why do voters in some counties breeze through voting lines while some voters in other counties have waited up to 2 hours in line?

In addition, why aren't all counties using the same voting machines and voting standards?  Having dozens of different machines --- manual and electronic, for example --- causes further irregularities and increases the risks of voter fraud and lack of voting machine integrity.

If former Secretary Williams could not perform that job well, what hope is there that he will be any better as a Texas Senator?
