TCEQ Schedules Public Meeting for Chalk Mountain on March 31 2009 at 7 pm

From email sent by KM from Darrell Best

We received notice from the TCEQ yesterday that the Public Meeting is scheduled for March 31st at 7pm at the high school auditorium.

Obviously with a large venue such as the auditorium, we are going to need a big turnout from all groups in Glen Rose that are concerned about the Rock Crusher going into Chalk Mountain.

Specifically we need to ask the TCEQ:

1) Why they have never answered any of the questions raised at the October 23rd meeting.
2) Why when over 20 flaws were noted with the original application that the application was deemed compliant with the technical rules and regulation of the TCEQ.
3) Why we have never been provided with complete documentation on the permit application as per the notices in the local papers - specifically site plans and emission calculations.
4) Why when Slick machines was given 33 calendar days to place the second notice in the paper, that he was allowed to take 44.

There are a number of other issues that I and our attorneys will raise in addition to the items listed above.

I think however that the most important thing we can do to help ourselves is to have a good turnout.  We need more people than we had before as the venue is larger and we don't want to leave the impression that we are losing interest as to whether a Rock Crusher goes into Chalk Mountain or not.

So I need your help, we need to turn out.

It's more than a bit offensive that the TCEQ has deem to treat us as rudely as they have in not answering our questions from 6 months ago.

It's offensive that when asked why the permit was deemed compliant with the technical requirements when we noted over 20 flaws and the engineer said he hadn't even bothered to read our analysis.

It is a bit heavy handed that the TCEQ sends notice about a meeting during Spring Break, when a lot of people are out of town, so we don't have time to rally everyone to a meeting.  They are giving us two weeks notice, but it seems a bit like they could have easily given us 30 days notice, and made sure we received it in time to get the meeting notice in the paper more than once.

Please pass the word on the meeting, we need everyone to turn out, to ask questions and to express outrage over the heavy handed treatment we are receiving from a Public agency.  In it inexcusable the way our questions have been ignored and it is inexcusable for a Public agency to be treating us in such a manner.

Thanks for your support,

Darrell

We need to support this group in their effort to halt any further mining of the rock from Somervell County.

If we continue mining the stone from the county we will soon be known as a another "flatland" community.  We must protect our natural resources and wildlife sanctuarys.  Each stone that is moved changes the water table and destroys the esoteric beauty of our historic area.  Who knows how many fossils, dinosaur tracks, and other treasures have been turned into gravel and hauled away?

The only way to prevent the pillage of our natural resources is to reduce the commercial demand for these products. This means that we must change the way we think and live.

You want to save Chalk Mountain? Then get your letter in to the Glen Rose City Council to protest the building of the water park, say 'NO!' to the addition of reactors 3 &4 at Comanche Peak and don't renew your gas lease. Build less and build with alternative materials.  Discourage any development that does not strictly honor the environment. Educate yourselves and your neighbors. Preach and practice birth control, locally and around the world.

We might not be in time to save our Chalk Mountain, but maybe we could at least save someone else's.
