Harris County District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal bluntly rejected the local Republican Party leadership's request Sunday night that he abandon his 2008 re-election campaign because of the scandal over personal e-mails he sent to his executive secretary on government computers.
"What part of 'no' don't you understand?" Rosenthal asked party chairman Jared Woodfill, according to County Judge Ed Emmett, who attended the emergency meeting.
The scandal arose last week when some of Rosenthal's e-mails surfaced in a federal lawsuit by two men who say they were abused by county sheriff's deputies because they videotaped deputies serving a warrant.
In several 2007 e-mails, Rosenthal declared his affection for his executive secretary, Kerry Stevens. Rosenthal is married. He acknowledged that he had an affair with Stevens years ago during his prior marriage and has denied that their romance has been rekindled. |

Over many years, in the five households the couple shared, the wife hired scores of servants to help take care of her rich husband. Then, in 2005, she hired someone to tail him. Margaret Ritchie Rhea Battle Scaife (whose friends call her Ritchie) suspected Richard Mellon Scaife (whose friends call him Dick) of committing adultery, so she enlisted the services of an investigator. It was a private act that would have very public consequences. Richard Mellon Scaife is the best-known living member of Pittsburgh’s storied Mellon clan, whose eponymous bank made the family a 19th-century fortune, which grew steadily with diversified investments, including major coal, steel, and real-estate interests, and Gulf Oil Corporation. Scaife, who owns several newspapers, is a major backer of conservative causes; his political donations fueled the rise of the New Right and its moral crusade against Bill Clinton, making Scaife the central figure in Hillary Clinton’s “vast right-wing conspiracy.” In the 1990s, his gift of $1.8 million to The American Spectator funded investigations into Whitewater and Bill Clinton’s personal life, including David Brock’s notorious “Troopergate” exposé, which led to Paula Jones’s sexual-harassment suit against the president.
In December of 2005, the private detective proved Ritchie’s fears to have been well founded: he took pictures showing the reclusive 75-year-old billionaire with a woman named Tammy Vasco, a tall, blonde 43-year-old whose criminal history includes two arrests for prostitution. The pair was photographed at Doug’s Motel, a roadside establishment near Pittsburgh, where rooms rent for $49 a night, or $31 for three hours....
The estranged couple and their intimates aren’t the only ones with an interest in this divorce. Richard Mellon Scaife is the man who funded the movement that made “family values” a watchword of the right and badly damaged the Clinton presidency. Many would now dearly love to hang him in the gallery of hypocrites whose Dickensian comeuppance exposes the moral bankruptcy of the culture wars....
Asked whether his infidelity is hypocritical, in light of his political commitments, he refers not to a moral principle but to his own personal history. “My first marriage ended with an affair,” he says, amused. And monogamy is not, he continues, an essential part of a good marriage. “I don’t want people throwing rocks at me in the street. But I believe in open marriage.” Philandering, Scaife says with a laugh, “is something that Bill Clinton and I have in common.”

State Police received an unexpected surprise when they stopped former Rep. John Sweeney on the Northway early Sunday a female passenger on his lap, a law enforcement source said Tuesday.When troopers began following the ex-lawmaker north on I-87, just south of Exit 9, they assumed the Clifton Park Republican was driving alone in his 2004 BMW, said the individual, whose identity is being withheld by the Times Union.
The 23-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was on Sweeney's lap, the source said.
Sweeney, who is expected to appear in Clifton Park Town Court tonight, was pulled over after he swerved toward a State Police cruiser nearly striking the vehicle, the individual said.

He told officers he believed he had been slipped "some type of drug" because he did not have a clear recollection of events. The police report added that Curtis told officers he only wanted his wallet back "and wanted to keep the incident as low key as possible." He did not want to pursue charges against Castagna, the report said. But as the investigation continued, police said Curtis admitted to having sex with Castagna in Curtis' hotel room. The chairman of the Republican Party in Brown County faces criminal charges for allegedly fondling a 16-year-old Ethan House runaway and providing the boy with beer and marijuana late last year. The teen, now 17, told authorities Fleischman took him to a hotel in Appleton during that time and then to a cabin near Florence for several days before returning to Fleischman's Allouez home. The boy said Fleischman provided him with beer and marijuana, the complaint said.
The boy told police that when he would go to bed, Fleischman would fondle him and that on one occasion he awoke to find Fleischman at the foot of his bed masturbating.
Detectives obtained the boy's drug tests from the days around the time he spent with Fleischman, and three samples from late November and early December tested positive for marijuana.

The report said that DiFatta slid his foot into the deputy's stall and tapped the deputy's foot. In the report, Conley noted that such activity is common among men to indicate a willingness to participate in sex. The deputy inside the stall, Detective Wayne Couvillion, responded by tapping his foot and DiFatta reached under the partition and began to rub the deputy's leg, the report states. The detective asked DiFatta "What do you want?", according to the report and he replied "I want to play with you". DiFatta also used a hand signal to indicate that he wanted to engage in sex and used language tha indicated the same.

A Minnesota judge on Thursday rejected Idaho Sen. Larry Craig's bid to withdraw his guilty plea in an airport sex sting, a major setback in Craig's effort to clear his name and hang on to his Senate seat.
"Because the defendant's plea was accurate, voluntary and intelligent, and because the conviction is supported by the evidence ... the defendant's motion to withdraw his guilty plea is denied," Hennepin County Judge Charles Porter wrote.

According to a spokesman for the Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Court, Bryan is accused of child and sexual abuse on three females, two of whom were his adopted children. During a hearing Friday morning at the Pinellas County Criminal Justice Center, Bryan was ordered not to have contact with any of these females. The two adopted daughters, ages 13 and 15, are now in their adoptive mother's custody. The third female is now an adult and does not live in the Bay area. In court Friday morning, Bryan was accused of having a sexual relationship with all three females. Bryan admitted to a sexual relationship with the female who is not one of his adopted children, but he said the relationship was consensual and she was an adult at the time

Federal Prosecutor Arrested in Child Sex Sting

A U.S. Justice Department official has been arrested on suspicion of traveling to Detroit over the weekend to have sex with a minor.An undercover officer posed as a mother offering her child to Atchison for sex, according to police. In deposition, detectives said Atchison suggested the mother tell her daughter that "you found her a sweet boyfriend who will bring her presents."
The undercover detective expressed concern about physical injury to the 5-year-old girl as a result of the sexual activity. Detectives said Atchison responded, " I am always gentle and loving; not to worry, no damage ever, no rough stuff ever. I only like it soft and nice."
The undercover detective asked how Atchison can be certain of no injury. He responded, "Just gotta go slow and very easy. I've done it plenty," according to detectives |

Titusville, Florida – Representative Robert “Bob” Allen was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with solicitation for prostitution.
Titusville police say Allen was acting suspiciously at Veteran's Memorial Park by going in and out of the men's restroom. And that's where police say Allen offered to perform a sex act on a male undercover officer for $20.

Sexually Assaulting A Girl Under 16

A former St. Augustine police officer, who also served four years as a Flagler County commissioner, was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a girl under 16 years old.
Patrick Lee McGuire, 45, could have received 15 years behind bars for each of the two counts. His prison term will be followed by 10 years of sex offender probation

A former South Dakota lawmaker is accused of molesting his own foster children and legislative pages.
Ted Klaudt, 49, a Republican rancher from Walker, faces a long list of charges: eight counts of rape, two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, two counts of witness tampering, sexual contact with a person under 16, and stalking.
Court documents mention five possible victims. Three were foster children between the ages of 15 and 19 who lived with Klaudt's family. One is a cousin of one of those girls, and the fifth is a friend of Klaudt's daughter.
In the most disturbing accusation, the girls say Klaudt had them convinced they could earn up to $20,000 by donating their eggs to a fertility clinic. And even though he has no medical training, the girls say Klaudt did all the supposed "exams" and "procedures" himself.

Larry Corrigan admitted embezzling the money when asked to turn over campaign records after his arrest last week on an attempted child-molestation charge, according to Maleng's campaign.Corrigan was arrested last week and accused of arranging to meet someone he met on the Internet and thought was a 13-year-old girl for a sexual tryst. The girl turned out to be an undercover Seattle police detective.

The disgraced former president of the National Evangelical Association, which represents 30 million evangelical Christians, apologized and said “because of pride, I began deceiving those I love the most because I didn’t want to hurt or disappoint them.”Haggard, 50, resigned last week as NEA president, where he held sway in Washington and condemned homosexuality, after a man claimed to have had drug-fueled homosexual trysts with him. Haggard also placed himself on administrative leave from the 14,000-member New Life Church, which he founded in the 1980s.
