Some Students Watched the Inaug. Why? So They Could Pass TAKS

I was up for reading some heartwarming stories about students watching the inauguration yesterday. I heard that the Glen Rose Reporter newspaper is going to do some photos and an article about GRISD kiddos doing that and I think it's neat. Also, at the school board meeting the other night Doug M, who is a superior IT guy, was preparing the video feeds so that the entire school could watch, at least part of it.

but this article is from the Killeen newspaper

Students at Eastern Hills Middle School watched President Barack Obama's inauguration Tuesday as a means to help prepare them for the TAKS test, among several other projects

The kids that came into school, which was a holiday on Tuesday, were studing up for TAKS in various subjects.

The students spent the day going to various session learning about math, history, science and English to better prepare for the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test, Guidry said.

Just seems WRONG to tie the inaugural into studying for a mandatory test, rather than studied and enjoyed for its own sake.. simply because.

But then, I don't agree with all the relentless TAKS testing that goes on all the time. I don't agree with No Child Left Behind. I hope those kids are able to think about watching the inaugural other then through the prism of a test.
