Video-Rick Warren Caught Lying About What He Said -Rachel Maddow Dissects

Incidentally, in the video the interviewee says that Rick Warren compares pro-choice women to holocaust deniers. Oh, PLEASE. Here's the article from the beliefnet interview in August 2008

Before last night, McCain had been widely criticized by Christian activists for keeping mum about his faith and about values issues like abortion and marriage Last night seemed to change that. How much headway did McCain make among skeptical evangelicals?

I'm a pastor, I'm not a prophet, so I would not predict how evangelicals are going to vote. I will tell you they're not monolith. That's a big myth. They're going to make up their minds based on the hierarchy of their values. For many evangelicals, of course, if they believe that life begins at conception, that's a deal breaker for a lot of people. If they think that life begins at conception, then that means that there are 40 million Americans who are not here [because they were aborted] that could have voted. They would call that a holocaust and for them it would like if I'm Jewish and a Holocaust denier is running for office. I don't care how right he is on everything else, it's a deal breaker for me. I'm not going to vote for a Holocaust denier...

Yeah. That's insulting to women and pretty inflammatory to boot.-so women who have abortions are like the NAZIS? From the LA Times

Most Americans do not think the one-third of American women who terminate a pregnancy are running a concentration camp in their wombs, and would have no trouble choosing between saving a Jew from a gas chamber and a fertilized egg from a fire at the clinic.

As a side note, in the Bible, viable life starts at *breath*, not abortion. God himself isn't pro-life.

Abortion:

Hosea 9:11-16 Hosea prays for God’s intervention.  “Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer.  Give them, 0 Lord: what wilt thou give?  Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. . .Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.”  Clearly Hosea desires that the people of Ephraim can no longer have children.  God of course obeys by making all their unborn children miscarry.  Is not terminating a pregnancy unnaturally “abortion”?
Numbers 5:11-21 The description of a bizarre, brutal and abusive ritual to be performed on a wife SUSPECTED of adultery.  This is considered to be an induced abortion to rid a woman of another man’s child.
Numbers 31:17 (Moses) “Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every women that hath known man by lying with him.”  In other words: women that might be pregnant, which clearly is abortion for the fetus.
Hosea 13:16 God promises to dash to pieces the infants of Samaria and the “their women with child shall be ripped up”.  Once again this god kills the unborn, including their pregnant mothers.

2 Kings 15:16 God allows the pregnant women of Tappuah (aka Tiphsah) to be “ripped open”. And the Christians have the audacity to say god is pro-life. How and the hell is it that Christians can read passages where God allows pregnant women to be murdered, yet still claim abortion is wrong?

As the link above points out, there are plenty of instances of murdering children in the Bible. I don't call that pro-life. Would Rick Warren call what God does a holocaust?

That doesn't even cover the way he thinks about women. It almost goes without saying that Christians pick and choose which scriptures to read and follow (otherwise NO Christian would ever get a divorce on any grounds but fornication and adultery, right?) but it really denigrates women to have them put in as second class citizens. Again from the LA Times.

take marriage. At his Saddleback Church, wifely submission is official doctrine: The church website tells women to defer to their husband's "leadership" even when he's wrong on important issues, such as finances. Never mind if she's an accountant and he flunked long division, or if she wants to beef up the kids' college fund and he wants to buy shares in the Brooklyn Bridge. The godly answer is supposed to be "yes, dear." Is elevating this male chauvinist how President-elect Obama thanks women, who gave him more than half his votes?

Clearly Rick Warren sneers at Obama and his base.

There are a lot of Christians who aren't Southern Baptist. There are a lot of religions that aren't Christian. And there are a lot of people who aren't religious. The issue with the above isn't that Rick Warren fits right in with the bigots of the Republican Party, who are also racist. It is that those who voted for Obama don't want to see bigotry elevated to a position of acceptability.
