Iraq War Justification-DSM Proves It was Lies, But Bush Insists 911 Forced War in Iraq

18 June 2005 at 6:41:39 PM

We assume that Bush is concerned that he may be impeached, or worse, tried in the International Criminal Court for war crimes. After all, he knew from the start, as proven by the Downing Street Memos and Minutes that his push for war was illegal and had to be justified by claiming a Weapons of Mass Destruction issue that he knew was unsubstantiated by the evidence. Bush would then have to folow a pattern of lying in order to save his own neck, and that he continues to do. But the difficulty the liar has is in remembering details already said. The title of this AFP News article is "Bush says US is in Iraq because of attacks on US" ; however, the quote only infers that and lets the reader make that leap.

"We went to war because we were attacked, and we are at war today because there are still people out there who want to harm our country and hurt our citizens," Bush said Saturday in his weekly radio address.

The United States was not attacked by Iraq, nor were there any direct threats against the United States (unlike the threats made by North Korea). Beyond that, Bush has said before that there was Saddam had nothing to do with 911; therefore, the War in Iraq was a war of choice, and again evidence by the DSM, one that Bush had been not yearing for since the beginning of his administration and started before he gained Congressional approval. Bush knew this and has said before that Iraq had nothing to do with 911, as in this video. He also said, in 2003 "We've had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the September 11th" (article about it on CBSNews site as well)

As the reality of the Downing Street Memos makes its way across the country, in newspapers and on television, a number of articles and editorialists are speaking up.

Oregon- Secret British Memos: Al-Qaida, Iraq Link 'Unconvincing' -

In one of the memos, British Foreign Office political director Peter Ricketts openly asks whether the Bush administration had a clear and compelling military reason for war.

"U.S. scrambling to establish a link between Iraq and al-Qaida is so far frankly unconvincing," Ricketts says in the memo. "For Iraq, `regime change' does not stack up. It sounds like a grudge between Bush and Saddam."

The documents confirm Blair was genuinely concerned about Saddam's alleged weapons of mass destruction, but also indicate he was determined to go to war as America's top ally, even though his government thought a pre-emptive attack may be illegal under international law.
