So Palin Was the Chairman of the Equivalent in Alaska of the TEXAS RAILROAD COMMISSION

BARF!!! I was reading this article from the NY Times and saw this.

Restless ambition defined Ms. Palin in the early years of this decade. She raised money for Senator Ted Stevens, a Republican from the state; finished second in the 2002 Republican primary for lieutenant governor; and sought to fill the seat of Senator Frank H. Murkowski when he ran for governor.

Mr. Murkowski appointed his daughter to the seat, but as a consolation prize, he gave Ms. Palin the $125,000-a-year chairmanship of a state commission overseeing oil and gas drilling.

That's the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. That would be like the CORRUPT state commission here that oversees oil and gas drilling, the Texas Railroad Commission (or RRC) The one that CORRUPT Michael Williams heads right now. Notice that type of committee is where politicans reward with patronage. Now read this next part.

Ms. Palin discovered that the state Republican leader, Randy Ruedrich, a commission member, was conducting party business on state time and favoring regulated companies. When Mr. Murkowski failed to act on her complaints, she quit and went public.

The Republican establishment shunned her. But her break with the gentlemen’s club of oil producers and political power catapulted her into the public eye.

....In the middle of the primary, a conservative columnist in the state, Paul Jenkins, unearthed e-mail messages showing that Ms. Palin had conducted campaign business from the mayor’s office. Ms. Palin handled the crisis with a street fighter’s guile.

“I told her it looks like she did the same thing that Randy Ruedrich did,” Mr. Jenkins recalled. “And she said, ‘Yeah, what I did was wrong.’ ”

So. Um. She's a reformer... why?

Mr. Jenkins hung up and decided to forgo writing about it. His phone rang soon after.

Mr. Jenkins said a reporter from Fairbanks, reading from a Palin news release, demanded to know why he was “smearing” her. “Now I look at her and think: ‘Man, you’re slick,’ ” he said.

Slick indeed.

Anne Kilkenny said she quit her job because she hated it and it was a long commute.

When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah got the best, chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: one of the few jobs not in Juneau and one of the best paid. She had no background in oil and gas issues. Within months of scoring this great job, which paid $122,400 per year, she was complaining in the press about the high salary. I was told that she hated that job: the commute, the structured hours, the work. Sarah became aware that a member of this commission (who was also the state chair of the Republican Party) engaged in unethical behavior on the job. In a gutsy move, which some undoubtedly cautioned her could be political suicide, Sarah solved all her problems in one fell swoop: got out of the job she hated and garnered gobs of media attention as the patron saint of ethics and as a gutsy fighter against the "old boys' club" when she dramatically quit, exposing this man's ethics violations (for which he was fined).

Except that, as we read just a bit before, she then DID THE SAME DANG THING SHE WAS ACCUSING THE OTHER GUY OF. Ethics???

Let's not forget that she was director of the 527 group for Ted Stevens, who has been indicted and is soon coming to trial in Alaska.

Palin, an anti-corruption crusader in Alaska, had called on Stevens to be open about the issues behind the investigation. But she also held a joint news conference with him in July, before he was indicted, to make clear she had not abandoned him politically.

Stevens had been helpful to Palin during her run for governor, swooping in with a last moment endorsement. And the two filmed a campaign commercial together to highlight Stevens's endorsement of Palin during the 2006 race.

Shortly after Palin was announced as McCain's vice presidential pick, the ad was removed from her gubernatorial campaign web site. It remains available on YouTube.

A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., has accused Stevens of concealing on financial disclosure statements lucrative gifts from the now-defunct oil company Veco and its top executives. At one point, Veco employees and contractors jacked up the senator's mountainside house on stilts and added a new first floor, with two bedrooms and a bathroom, the indictment says.

McCain-Palin's Oil Slick-mistating the numbers.

Palin lobbyist ties include oil firms.

She's fought oil companies and party bosses and do-nothing bureaucrats and anyone who puts their interests before the interests of the people she swore an oath to serve," Mr. McCain said Friday at an Ohio rally to introduce her as his running mate.

But since Mrs. Palin leads a major oil-producing state, that industry is one of her top donors.

She collected nearly $13,000 from lobbyists who represent oil and gas industries in her primary and general campaigns, according a review of her campaign donations and 2006 registered state lobbyists.

Her campaign also collected donations from lobbyist employees of most of the major oil companies, including BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc., Exxon Mobil Corp., Anadarko Petroleum Corp., Chevron USA Inc., ConocoPhillips Alaska Inc. and Shell Oil Co.

"Democrats have repeatedly tied McCain to the oil and gas industry," the Center for Responsive Politics, a Washington watchdog group, said in a report. "Will the opposition try to cast his running mate as 'B-Palin´?"

P.S. I find it interesting that Palin had no problem with hacking into computers but is trying to impede her own ethics investigation.

Palin is an oil Mongerer!

I hope that politician's will talk about the true cost of oil.  People in this country are complaining that oil gasoline costs them $4 per gallon.  However, oil costs us much more.  I think that the cost to the environment, which can be calculated in dollars...for example the cost to clean-up oil spills, the cost of dirty air and the health problems it causes, the costs of hurricanes like Ike and Katrina, the cost of global warming in general.  I hope Obama has his people calculate these real costs and average them into the cost per gallon for gasoline.  I would imagine gasoline actually costs the average citizen more like $50 a gallon!
Just as an addiction to heroin costs much more than the price of the drugs itself, so addiction to oil costs much more than what we pay at the pump.
What about the cost to our beautiful landscapes; the coastal waters, the pristine Alaskan environment.  And what should we do with all of these ridiculous drilling rigs after we have sucked all the oil out of the ground and pumped it up into the atmosphere?  What about the cost of removing the drilling machines when they are no longer of use...when all the oil is gone...because one day it will all be gone...that is its nature.  Oil is non-renwable.  Or do all the fanatical born again christians like Palin not care because they are just hoping for Armageddon soon anyway?  The policies of the right wing christians will certainly hurry that along!
OIL IS FOR DINOSAURS...and if we keep using OIL we will become dinosaurs.
We need to invest in the energy of the future....in fact solar and wind power are the energies of the present.  They already exist!  Lets use them more fully and develop a sustainable infrastructure before the religious right (which does not care about the planet anyway) turn Earth into a living hell.

It is ironic that the place where the black poison is refined is also the place where mother nature strikes hardest with the rage that oil curdles in her blood.  Maybe it is mother nature saying...STOP WITH THE OIL ALREADY or I will send storms the size of states to stop it for you!  Listen to God Palin and McCain...she is speaking with great anger.  Lets get off the oil!
