How did WE Watch the Democratic National Convention? Via the Internet, NOT the Television

10 September 2008 at 5:23:34 PM

Suppose that the polls showing that more people watched McCain than Obama didn't take into consideration the people that don't WATCH TELEVISION but watch it online, either as it is streaming or afterward via online video in various forms.

You know we ditched Dish. So we actually used a projector with a laptop to show the streaming video. Worked great. But I equally could've gone to C-span and watched the whole thing on my computer. Now our way of watching Obama wasn't factored into the number of people who saw the conventions.

As Slog says

It's hard to dismiss the significance or power of broadcast television, but it's also negligent to exclude the significance of the internet. All told, there were 7.8 million DNC viral videos viewed, across 278 different video placements, compared to 3 million RNC video views online in 265 unique video placements, according to Visible Measures. Of course, the discrepancy could be attributed to plain old demographics -- the McCain support base just prefer television to online video.
