On Sid Miller (TX House District 59) and School Vouchers

I had written recently about Sid Miller and school voucher. I did not and do not like the fact that his comments about school vouchers as given a couple of years ago seemed quite disingenuous. He wrote me with a reply.

I saw on one of your post that you have some concerns that I might support vouchers.  I do not, and my voting record reflects that.  In the last session (80th) there was an amendment offered to HB1 by democrat Heflin.  His amendment would for bid the state spending any money on any type of voucher program.  I voted in support of his amendment. This was a straight up or down vote on vouchers.  If you would like to check it out, record vote #235 page 1322 of the journal.

I also voted against another voucher bill in the 78th session by republican Gruesendorf.  HB1554 was a voucher late type bill that would have paid for online instruction to homeschoolers. Currently home school students receive no sate money, but this bill would have paid for all their online courses, testing, etc.  Check it out 78th session, record vote 321 and 320, pages 1748 and 1747.  I hope this will help.

I don\'t have time at this moment to check the record, but definitely will and will update with some references when I do.

Update: 2011-Sid Miller is FOR School vouchers now.
