High Prices at the Pumps: More on Oil Company Rip-Offs

Let's all blame those darned "Liberal Democrats"

This article is dedicated to the people who buy into liberal-pointing-finger biases throughout the U.S. who would rather believe such absurd propaganda than to look at the facts.

(check the links below, don't just take my word for it)

We're supposed to believe that "Liberal Democrats" solely are the cause of high gas prices at the pumps.

Well, agreeably while that party may have a hand in causing a lot of our problems it is more pragmatic to place the blame where it REALLY belongs, and the main finger-pointing should be at the oil companies themselves.

You need only look at one of the more recent oil company insanities when in 2006 ExxonMobil awarded the "golden retirement package" to its former CEO, Lee Raymond.

Raymond received more than $400 MILLION in total compensation.

Go ahead and explain that one to the poor consumers who now are paying almost $4.00 per gallon at the pumps!  They have a legitimate gripe.

Even with that atmospheric retirement package ExxonMobil is showing enormous profits.  In each of the past 3 years the company's profits have increased to record highs.  Due to "Liberal Democrats" in Washington?  Ha-ha!

You could try to make the case that since ExxonMobil is making such a huge profit, that the retirement package is justified.  Wrong!

ExxonMobil employees have a legitimate case against the company as well.  Despite the record windfall profits the company has UNDERFUNDED its pension plan by more than $11.2 BILLION!!!

That's the most of ANY company on record!

.

What industrial leader Lee Iacocca (in Where Have All The Leaders Gone?)believes is even more unconscionable about this issue is that U.S. taxpayers "on are the hook" for defaulted pension plans.  I agree with him!

So, is THAT the fault of the "Liberal Democrats in Washington?"

Please don't make me laugh.

A large part of the reason for such shenanigans in the high corporate echelon is because (just as in Washington D.C.) there is no ACCOUNTABILITY for actions.

Many corporate boards mirror what for years has been going on in Washington.  There is huge greed for power and profits and CEO's have selected their special interest favorites to become members on the boards.

Corporate greed is hurting Americans, and our congress (not just Democrats) is helping it along.

What happens all too often these days, e.g., at Enron, is that those corporate board members then do the bidding of the CEO's --- that's corporate "cronyism".  That's NOT how it's supposed to be.

The board is supposed to question the actions and direction of the CEO and it is supposed to manage in the best interests of the shareholders and company workers.  Where is the accountability and justification?

In today's America there is no shortage of corporate greed.  Number 1 in the "Corporate Hall of Shame" is Halliburton.

Remember Halliburton?  The corporation that has a 2nd new HQ in Dubai of the Middle East?

Could it possibly be that our Vice President Dick Cheney was the CEO of Halliburton?  And while Cheney dismisses his alleged ties remaining with the company, facts point to it.

By the way, is there any reason why Dick Cheney's official White House biography published on the web site is purposely very general and has no record of his being CEO of Halliburton?

Some point the finger for high gasoline costs at the Democrats.

Some state that OPEC is the culprit.

Some look at the variable gasoline taxes regulated by various nations.

Millions of Americans need to take a long hard look at the oil companies to really determine why we need to pay THAT much at the gas pumps.

To blame only the "Liberal Democrats" in Washington for high gas prices is severely naive at best.  It's just another political power-play.
