Governor Rick Perry's Poor Leadership: some things NEVER change!

21 May 2008 at 1:56:14 PM

Too bad the governor doesn't believe and obey the motto of "Don't Mess With Texas!"

He's been messin' with us for years now.

There's a reason why only 39-percent of the total voters selected Perry in the last gubernatorial election.

Back in 2007 once again, the governor’s poor leadership forced the possibility of another “special” legislative session regarding House Bill 1892, a.k.a., the toll road moratorium and other toll issues.

Perry must be going for the Guinness Book of World Records, since as governor he already holds the state record for costing taxpayers the most money for calling the most “special” legislative sessions. I put the word “special” in quotation marks to highlight the fact that they’re not so special. In fact they aren’t even up to the level of mediocre.

During the previous two years the governor has cost taxpayers more than $10 million in additional legislative costs.  And what did we get for that money?  Not too much!

All because our governor can’t/won’t lead, legislators are inept, too special interest motivated, enmeshed in the negative political system and power-plays, too wimpy to make the hard decisions and/or ignorant themselves on the issues ---- you can take your pick.

It’s a fact that “you can bet the farm” that Perry will continue to mislead our officials and will still "mess with" Texans in a way that will continue to oppress and financially bankrupt future generations, as with his desire to develop infinite toll taxes throughout the state.

Add to the above that Texans are hurting from the governor's push for his special interests, e.g.,

  • sky-rocketing property taxes
  • unaffordable health care services and insurance
  • doubled cost of homeowners insurance
  • escalating tuition costs at higher institutions
  • higher costs of electricity
  • ongoing diversion of "slush funds", e.g., gas taxes, that go to other interests
  • push for the Trans-Texas Toll Corridor that hurts Texans in their wallets and in losing or being forced to sell-off their property
  • causing more stagnation in our state senate and house.

All in all, Perry may be the very worst governor the people of Texas EVER had, but he certainly has been a boon to his wealthy constituents and corporate campaign contributors.

The majority of Texans can thank the 39-percent of voters for re-electing this lackluster, irresponsible, useless governor who hasn't a clue how to lead.

A brief note to those folks: You voted for him, you earned him and you deserve him.

When somebody gets elected to be a certain position, then that's the one he or she ought to be doing. NOT hanging out in Dubai. NOT trying to get on the ticket as a vice president. You and me with a job have to QUIT if we want to do something else. Same thing ought to be for people running for office.

Perry is counting on his hairdo to get him elected again.
