Altered Yearbooks!

Lifetouch Screwed up Yearbook Photos for McKinney Texas Yearbook

So... you're the school administration people and you get back the yearbooks that you paid Lifetouch to fix up, ala making people's heads a uniform size. (Let me say that as someone that plays with graphics software quite a bit, it's just not hard to enlarge a picture to make everybody about the same size, although you might lose a little in resolution, depending on the original.) What Lifetouch did was actually put different people's heads on different bodies... Etc!

Besides the head and body switching, some necks were stretched, one girl's arm was missing, and another girl's head was placed on what appeared to be a nude body, with the chest blurred.

A spokeswoman for Minnesota-based Lifetouch National School Studios Inc. said the alterations were "an unfortunate lapse in judgment" by an employee but didn't believe it was malicious.

And how much WERE they paying this employee????? Did they pick the person out of a back alley?

The high school had required Lifetouch to make heads the same size and eyes at the same level in all student photos, company spokeswoman Sara Thurin Rollin said Saturday. The request was "unusual and definitely very particular, but that's not to suggest what happened here is acceptable," she said.

From the DMN

Sophomore Brielle Anderson said she's pretty sure her head is on a boy's body.

"I paid $80 for a cropped picture of my head on someone else's body," she said.

She noted that she's also missing a few inches of hair.

Chelsey Rephan, a sophomore, said one girl in the yearbook had her clothing digitally rubbed out.

"She looked like she didn't have a shirt on," Chelsey said.

Um. That's not malicious. Sounds like it to me! The article doesn't say that Lifetouch FIRED that employee, and McKinney ISD is concerned that there doesn't seem to be accountability for what cannot possibly be accidental mistakes.

Ms. Oglesbee said the yearbook staff would spend the weekend at the school, working to rebuild the yearbook for reprinting. It will cost the company $85,000 to reprint 1,100 yearbooks, she said.

Meanwhile, the school district wants to know why the photos were altered in the manner they were.

"I think it was somebody who doesn't understand ethics," Ms. Oglesbee said.

I'm a current Junior at McKinney High School and I remember my Freshman year when this incident occured. My top shirt was taken off and my hair was shorter than the actual legnth. I remember how angry our entired student body was, but i can remember one of my friends had her head cut off and put on a males body! It's just ridiculous how a company can screw up that much.

How awful for you.  It will be, however, one of the funniest stories you tell in your life:)

That all was crap.  I remember hearing our yearbook advisor that year required that the images be altered if they did not meet "Her" Standards when they didn't , she had them photoshop stuff . She was sent the images to approve after the alterations.   If some kids wore an inappropriate shirt..then their shirt was changed digitally, I guess they missed some nuances in some photos since they had to re-edit the entire class 5 or six times over and over to fix things for the journalism lady.  She never told any of the students that this stuff was happening.  I'm glad I don't go there anymore.
