U.S. Rep. John Carter Honors Our Troops by 'Smacking' Pelosi and Democrats

15 May 2008 at 7:39:32 AM

Such communications are part of the problem with our nation.

Wanting to convey the importance of honoring and supporting our troops is one thing, blaming the Democrats for all our ills is disheartening, unnecessary, inappropriate and just downright wrong.

“May is Military Appreciation month, a time when we should go above and beyond to honor our military.  Instead, the Democrat Leadership has offered the funds and resources our troops need to succeed, but only if Congress agrees to spend billions in unrelated spending and let Nancy Pelosi play General from Washington, D.C. . ."

--U.S. Representative John Carter

The only thing I agree with Rep. Carter on is that all Americans should appreciate and honor our military men and women.  After all, I am a Disabled Vietnam Veteran and fully comprehend how important it is for our nation to support our troops.  During the Vietnam era, most Americans didn't do so and our military men and women suffered from that reality.
However, it's really tiresome to hear our officials (like Rep. Carter) pointing the finger at either of the 2 parties, blaming them for all our ills.
Rep. John Carter is 'all wet' on this issue.
For the years during the GOP majority in Congress, it refused to provide the funding to ensure that our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan were given the armor, technology and weapons they needed to complete their missions successfully.  That fact put our men and women in jeopardy needlessly.
In addition, for quite some time our troops were not provided the meals they needed due to legislative negligence.  In fact, food was being horded and many of our soldiers were denied their share.
As with so many issues, it is NOT a Democrat vs. Republican issue.  It is an issue of our entire Congress and it starts with Pres. Bush!
The real problem returns to the fact that Congress is more entwined with Corporate America and its ongoing actions reflect that.  The greed for ongoing and endless profiteering is a major problem we are facing.
So, appreciate, honor and support our troops but let's stop pointing the fingers and blaming one party or the other.
Democrats and Republican must start working together to resolve our urgent economic, political and social issues if the U.S. is to remain a great nation and a credit to the world community.
