Art Rohsner from Navasota, Texas on Chet Edwards Patriotic Brochure (US House District 17)

I've said before that I wish any time a politician sends out a status report about what he or she is doing, that they do it in a nice but inexpensive format. Yes, I know that black and white newsletter formats or ones that don't use glossy paper may not look as exciting as a brochure with all colors and a big old flag on the front, but why do status reports look SO MUCH like campaign literature.. at MY expense? (Here's the last time I wrote about this.)

Got another brochure in the mail the other day that has a flag all over the front, with the title "Honoring Promises to America's Veterans". Nowhere in the brochure does it mention he's a Democrat. But it does say "This mailing was prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense".

Anyway, I was reading this opinion in the Navasota Examiner and I agree with it.

As you may have noticed, Congressman, Chet Edwards, who voted to give Bush the power to send our boys and girls to a useless war, is now sending us a patriotic brochure praising his help to finance veteran hospitals. What kind of help can he give to rectify the loss of life, arms, legs and worse? Political afterthought instead of forethought is a dangerous thing.

If we kill one person, we are liable to spend the rest of our life in prison or execution. If leaders of a country, by their action, kill or maim hundreds, thousands or millions and label it war, they are excused and sometimes praised. In my mind, the word war is only legitimate when done in defense. Leaders, who invade a country for no honest reason, should be liable to the same law that punishes individual murderers.

Our military personal do not join and take an oath to invade another country. They swear to defend our country and its Constitution. It's the President and Congress that breaks their oath by illegitimate
