"It Ain't Illegal If the Law Don't Catch Ya"

That must be the platform of our Texas leaders.

  • Gov. Perry used taxpayer dollars to lobby and advertise for Proposed Amendment #15
  • TxDOT uses tax dollars to lobby the U.S. Congress to change the federal law that protects all of us from paying tolls on roads we already paid for via gasoline tax dollars
  • Legislators have frozen the gasoline tax for more than 1 decade and also divert 40-percent of that revenue to other interests
  • TxDOT uses our tax dollars to advertise its toll road agenda
  • Taxpayers soon will be paying for traffic light cameras in Austin that have become a constitutional rights issue
  • Speaker Tom Craddick delivered questionable large checks to former Congressman Tom DeLay's campaign HQ; Craddick got off with "I didn't know what was in the envelope."
  • Rick Perry & spouse Anita are using $10,000 of tax dollars to rent a lakeside home until the Governor's Mansion is renovated; according to Perry, that amount is not much because it also pays for his large security personnel
  • Perry appoints individuals to dozens of state positions and then avoids reappointing them when the contract is over; that way the individual stays in the post without a contract and Perry does NOT have to justify reappointing someone
  • Many state departments waste our tax dollars and/or are not really needed; the Sunset Commission is one of these.  It has NOT created significant positive changes in years!
  • Many state departments are under-funded, e.g., social service areas
  • While the platform of our leaders and the GOP is "NO New Taxes", then what are tolls, road bonds, "managed care lanes" and school bonds?
  • Despite the state constitution mandate that the state must provide a quality public education for all Texas children, the state only provides 40 percent of school tax dollars while it has shifted 60 percent onto local government via homeowner property taxes
  • State government permits various conflicts of interests among its officials and departments without any oversight or prosecution; to name a few:  Gov. Rick Perry, Sen Kirk Watson, Rep. Mike Krusee, TxDOT Commissioner Ric Williamson, etc.
  • State officials have set-up a myriad of general "slush funds" that divert money they were created for and then provide large amounts from them to other interests.

All in all, our leaders will do anything for their big money contributors --- and why shouldn't they?  The recent election on amendments proved again that Texas voters are NOT interested in voting AGAINST special interest proposals.

In addition, the current laws protect those in our leadership from being prosecuted via loosely-worded bills and legislation that provide many loopholes for those who know how to use them.

In truth, "Special interests have purchased the best state government money can buy."
