The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. -H L Mencken - (Added by: salon)
Burger King's Horrible *Torture the King* Commercial
Pic from which has nothing to do with torture but I think is a hilarious Separated at Birth pic.
I think I saw this during the World Series games. Basically, it was truculant women striding into a back alley to pay off a hitman to kill the Burger King because he has a delicious sandwich that competes with their *home* cooking. When the hitman asks if he can torture him, the women get this fiendish look on their face and tell him, basically, to make him suffer.
Now, maybe I would have thought that type of commercial was tongue in cheek during lighter days when the United States didn't actually engage in torture. But who's the bonehead who thought that would be funny? Especially when you have, this week, a man being vetted to be Attorney General who can't say that waterboarding someone is torture.
I actually quit eating at Burger King a long time ago when their advertisers thought it would be funny to make menage-a-trois jokes about their sandwiches, with bump and grind music playing in the background.
