Does Bush Personally Call ALL the Democratic House Members About the Iraq War?

Or just the ones he thinks will vote with the Republicans?

Edwards, D-Waco, said he intends to honor a request Bush made in a personal phone call two weeks ago. Bush asked Edwards to keep an open mind on what to do next in Iraq until Petraeus had briefed Congress

How will Edwards vote? Will he vote to END the surge? Clues below.

I think there is a consensus that our military has performed extremely well and that the surge has created some short-term reduction of violence in some parts of the country. But there is also agreement that Iraqi political leaders haven’t come close to bringing about the political reconciliation necessary to stabilize their country. At some point, we have to send a clear message to the Iraqi political leaders that you have to start taking more responsibility for your own country’s future.

At *some* point?

I think the key to success in Iraq has to come from within Iraq itself, particularly with their political leaders. So far, I have been totally unimpressed with Iraqi political leadership. This war has now lasted longer than America’s involvement in World War II, and we have lost over 3,700 American lives and (spent) more than $10 billion a month in taxpayers’ money. The continuation of the status quo is not going to work. I think the Iraqi political leaders may not take their own responsibilities serious enough till we actually remove some U.S. troops from Iraq. To me, the best hope for peace might be an actual step toward reducing the number of troops there so that they get the message and take more responsibility to bringing about political reconciliation and ending massive corruption and sectarianism.

Why, that's the same thing the Bush administration and Republicans have been saying and I'll bet that reduction of some troops will come close to the election. Wanna lay your bets?

I think we will absolutely see some reduction of U.S. forces in Iraq next year because we have stretched the Army to the breaking point, and we have no reserve forces should any military action be necessary in another part of the world. So for our own nation’s security interest, we absolutely have to reduce some troops next year. The question is when and how many.

So, not because it's wrong we are there in the first place, but because we have too many military personnel and need to take the number down. Not get out, just reduce the forces.
