Clinton Tells Anti-War Proponents to Put Feelings Aside

In an article in which Clinton blasts Bush's energy policy as "dumb economics", Clinton also said this:

But Clinton encouraged Americans to support democracy in Iraq, and said they should encourage the Bush administration to work with the rest of the world in bringing peace to the region. The former president said those who opposed going to war with Iraq had to put those feelings aside. "You should want it to work now," he said

We disagree vehemently with this statement. We always believed that the war on Iraq was fought on false premises, the reason to attack another country without justification was not to bring it democracy and we oppose American occupation of Iraq.

The question isn't whether we want to see the Iraqi government work or whether we want to see it successful at democracy-it is that the US had no business attacking them and then occupying them in the first place. There has never been a connection between 911 and Saddam, and the pretext of WMD for invading Iraq was flawed information.

What we do want to see work is the Iraqi governments, sans the involvement and presence of the military, allowed to create their own government, their own democracy in their own style, in their own time and their own way, even as we also created our own form of democracy without interference from Britain and France.
