About Marble Falls, Texas and the Flooding

1 July 2007 at 12:25:13 PM

I was a little worried about my aunt and uncle that live there and wasn't able to get hold of them the other day. Turns out that the phones were out; luckily, for them, because their house is up high off the lake, although the water came up to their doorstep, the house wasn't flooded. She told me a funny story about her dog; usually when it floods up there, they try to take the fish that might be trapped in the land bottom back out to the lake, but due to some other circumstances, they weren't able to do that this time, so a lot of fish remained and died. Her dog kept trying to find ways, when being let out, to go run off down the hill so he could roll in the fish! One time he snuck behind a shed where he thought Aunt woudln't see him and tried to make it down. That must be some doggie's idea of sheer heaven.

Other people in Marble Falls weren't so lucky in the flooding, including the businesses who depend on fresh water. While I was looking at the Highlander newspaper site, I saw THIS picture!

Here's a road buckled in Granite Shoals

When I was a kid, we used to go out to visit my grandparents and swim out to the *island* that was in the middle of the lake. I remember seeing a man out there once with a bar of soap, washing up. When you look at this picture of the flooding, you see that there aren't ANY sand bars or islands out there.
