Kay Granger's (R-Fort Worth) Ignorant Class Bill -Weather Radios for Mobile Homes

21 June 2007 at 9:42:04 PM

I laughed when I read this-Granger has co-sponsored a bill that would require mobile and manufactured homes to come equipped with weather radios. Now, it isn't that I don't think it's a good idea to have weather radios. We have one ourselves, and it goes off regularly in flash flood warnings, etc "Turn Around Don't Drown" ... but we live in a HOUSE. It seems to me that the weather radio requirements ought to ALSO be for houses that are built. Um. It's only people in mobile homes that get in their cars and drive in high water? What about all the tornado damage I saw in houses in a subdivision in Arlington on the teevee? Or take the big Banc One building in downtown Fort Worth that was TRASHED about 7 or 8 years ago when a tornado went through a mobile home downtown Fort Worth.

Be fair, Granger. If you REALLY want to protect people's lives, protect EVERYONE's and make ALL the housing industry of whatever stripe responsible for including weather radios. Because it isn't that Only People Who Live In Mobile Homes Can't Figure Out To Stay HOME When There's a storm.
