If you Support Nuclear Power Plants, Would You Be Happy To Have one Built Within 5 Miles of You?

4 June 2007 at 11:11:43 AM

Sometimes I wonder what people are thinking when they answer polls "Oh, Sure, I think Nuclear Energy is Great! Oh, you want to build one down the road near the school? No, wouldn't it be better to go build one out in a rural area? What? You mean people live there, too? Well, I don't want one near me."

Exelon is about to announce where they will build one near Houston.

Let's remember

The most recent nuclear plant built in the U.S. is Comanche Peak, finished in 1993. The plant, owned by TXU, took 20 years to build and cost $11 billion, 12 times the initial estimate.

P.S. The "Would you Want One in Your Back Yard?" ought to be part and parcel of ANY poll in which somebody somewhere is being affected. Like for the TTC- You'd be fine with a big huge toll road if it comes and takes your property? You'd be fine with a big old belching coal plant if it's on the lot next door? Please.
