After the Campaign is Over, Where do The Contributions Go? Bush Fund Donates To His Library

Several things about this. First up, the ONLY reason we know that the Bush fund gave $107 thousand to his own library is because it came out of his campaign committee FROM WHEN BUSH RAN FOR PRES AFTER BEING GOVERNOR. So, six years later, it is FINALLY shutting down. Second, how about some light shed on just Who and How Much is being spent, period for the George Bush Whitewash Library. and third, how come monies from a campaign for a particular office can still be around 6 years later, after going a whole bunch of other places. What about maybe requiring unused funds to go to charity?

The Governor Bush Committee, one of the most successful fundraising organizations in Texas history, shut down on Dec. 18, 2006, records show. It was three days shy of the six-year anniversary of Bush's resignation as governor. Bush's state campaign committee spent $2.3 million after he left the governor's office, records show.

Some of it went to accountants, lawyers, taxes, storage and other items. But the committee handed out most of it in big chunks to his allies. For example, it gave $1 million to the Republican National Committee in late 2001, then $450,000 in mid-2002 to two GOP groups working to elect Republicans to Congress.

The fund also dropped $250,000 on the Associated Republicans of Texas in late 2001, and gave a series of $10,000 checks to some of the GOP candidates who had run alongside him on the state ballot, including Gov. Rick Perry, eventual Perry nemesis Carole Keeton Strayhorn and Susan Combs, now state comptroller.
