Someone sent the Chair a very foolish message about the Injection Well Meeting last weekend

I'm always sorry to see when someone allows politics to influence judgement about what ought to be a TEXAS issue. The Trans-Texas Corridor debacle is one such issue to me, and the gas waste injection wells is another. Does it matter whether speakers who want to see the government held accountable and have experiences to tell are Democratic or Republican? I don't think so-an issue that involves despoiling our air and water transcends politics.

A man who came to the meeting asked right away if this was a Democratic meeting and said if it was, he was going to turn around and walk out. I told him no, because it wasn't a political meeting, and, in fact, two of the people speaking were Republicans. One of the speakers, from Wise County, told me he had voted twice for George Bush and wasn't going to do it anymore because he was tired of what was happening in this country and what Bush has been doing. The other Republican actually voted more independently and his choices included some Democrats. But that really doesn't matter-the gas injection wells are an issue that ought to be bringing TEXANS together, and insisting that speakers at a NON-POLITICAL event only be Democrats is incredibly narrow.

Anyway, the Chair forwarded me a message in which someone who apparently wanted to be semi-anonymous but I'm guessing is from Wise County said "FYI. Jim Popp is a Republican that voted in the 2006 Republican primary". First up, the Chair nor the Democratic party didn't host that event, I did and I know Popp voted Republican. So? What, does the writer of the email think that only Democrats care about gas injection wells? Or can fight them?

I'm not a Republican nor will I ever be, I just flat don't agree with their money-is-all-that point of view. But some things transcend politics, and WHEN there are people who are fighting the injustices of this government in order to better lives for everyone, those people should be applauded and encouraged, so that we can ALL, as populists, fight the good fight.
