Boy! Peter Stern channels my own thoughts on this. Yes, get rid of Bush but don't leave Cheney around to harm the country- A Dual Impeachment!
Can you imagine Dick Cheney as President?
Let's not go there!!!
Yes, George Walker Bush is an overzealous underachiever and a maniacal sociopath. However, if Bush is guilty of so many atrocities and illegal manipulations can V.P. Cheney and the rest of the administration be innocent? It's doubtful.
Consequently, if the only and/or best way to save the U.S. from itself and its poor unethical management is to impeach Bush, we must also impeach Cheney and as well eliminate the entire Washington administrative staff.
On April 20, 2006 Representative Karen A. Yarbrough, a Democratic member of the Illinois State Assembly, with two co sponsors, Representatives Sara Feigenholtz (D) and Eddie Washington (D) introduced a resolution calling for the impeachment of President George W. Bush. House Joint Resolution 125
(click on link).
The document outlined the reasons for impeachment as:
WHEREAS, Section 603 of Jefferson's Manual of the Rules of the United States House of Representatives allows federal impeachment proceedings to be initiated by joint resolution of a state legislature; and
WHEREAS, President Bush has publicly admitted to ordering the National Security Agency to violate provisions of the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, a felony, specifically authorizing the Agency to spy on American citizens without warrant; and
WHEREAS, Evidence suggests that President Bush authorized violation of the Torture Convention of the Geneva Conventions, a treaty regarded a supreme law by the United States Constitution; and
WHEREAS, The Bush Administration has held American citizens and citizens of other nations as prisoners of war without charge or trial; and
WHEREAS, Evidence suggests that the Bush Administration has manipulated intelligence for the purpose of initiating a war against the sovereign nation of Iraq, resulting in the deaths of large numbers of Iraqi civilians and causing the United States to incur loss of life, diminished security and billions of dollars in unnecessary expenses; and
WHEREAS, The Bush Administration leaked classified national secrets to further a political agenda, exposing an unknown number of covert U. S. intelligence agents to potential harm and retribution while simultaneously refusing to investigate the matter; and
WHEREAS, the Republican-controlled Congress has decline to fully investigate these charges to date; therefore be it
The resolution reaches its summary by arguing that:
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that the General Assembly of the State of Illinois has good cause to submit charges to the U. S. House of Representatives under Section 603 that the President of the United States has willfully violated his Oath of Office to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States; and be it further
RESOLVED, That George W. Bush, if found guilty of the charges contained herein, should be removed from office and disqualified to hold any other office in the United States.
Currently, few of the media have followed the process and this has been an ongoing issue that has hindered action and withheld --- if not censored --- volatile information from the public eye.
Another concern is that newly selected Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, already has stated publicly that the new Democratic Majority would NOT seek the impeachment of Pres. Bush. Exactly why Speaker Pelosi so commented has not been revealed.
Pres. Bush has hindered Democratic principles at every turn of his administration's efforts and has enhanced the financial plight of our nation's economy as well as middle-class Americans. The rich have become wealthier and the poor have become more like Victor Hugo's Les Misérables!
It is the new American imperative to hold George Walker Bush accountable for his irresponsible actions via initiating impeachment proceedings ASAP. However, V.P. Dick Cheney must be included in the impeachment prosecution. Cheney has been instrumental in developing the current administration's policies and programs and is at the least as guilty as is Pres. Bush.
To impeach only Bush and enabling Cheney to assume the presidency is unacceptable as well as dangerous. In addition, it would add nothing to establishing the U.S.'s credibility to our World Neighbors.
The impeachment process must become an all-out Texas-type BBQ, with a variety of guilty meat on the grill. "Birds of a feather" generally must get stuck in oil together.
So there is an immediate urgency to question our elected officials on why is there a delay on impeachment proceedings?
Consequently, Congress must move quickly to impeach Bush and Cheney and as well to replace the Washington administration, thus ensuring that the current irresponsible malady no longer spreads to others in power and investing our faith and hope in those leaders who hopefully then will take our nation to a higher and more evolved system of representative management.
