Did a double-take when I read this Austin American Statesman opinion piece about what a great idea it is to raise the gasoline tax to pay for highway construction, etc... except keep the toll roads. Hello! The whole idea of the report was to say that we didn't NEED TO HAVE TOLL ROADS that would, among other things, take people's dang property, IF we raised the gas tax.

Shaking my head here because you have to wonder who exactly on this editorial board wrote this? Perry and his goons, hoping to get more money to spend paying consultants to get video gambling in the state? Or perhaps it was a plea to get more money so that we can spend MORE ON protecting the oil fields in Iraq THE IRAQ WAR.

Another reason — though this is a federal concern, not state — is that the price of gasoline ought to reflect its true cost, and part of that cost is maintaining a massive U.S. military presence in the Middle East to protect the oil fields and guard the oil tanker shipping lanes upon which the world economy so heavily depends.

Bah!
