Perry's *Error in Judgment* -Texas Education Groups Warn Trustees Against Perry's Gambling with Retirement Funds

Wrote about Perry's pet projects before and how happy he is to take teacher's retirement to invest in HIS little group. You can't help liking an article where the trustees for public education retirement funds are WARNED against him and his scheme. heh.

Perry's office has asked the $103 billion Teacher Retirement System to consider investing up to $600 million in companies that have received money from the state's Emerging Technology Fund, a pet project of the governor's. Trustees said Thursday that it's unlikely the fund would ever invest more than a fraction of that amount.

Who gets to make those decisions? Gee. Perry. Both times, through his appointments.

Teacher groups say they're concerned about Perry's control over both the pension fund and the technology fund. The governor appointed all the members of each board.

In light of that, "the governor should not be making sales presentations or suggesting this fund invest alongside another fund that he controls," said Ted Melina Raab, a legislative agent for the Texas Federation of Teachers and its affiliate Education Austin, a Central Texas teachers' union.
