Erath County (Huckaby) to get Waste Disposal Well # 6-Any Reader on the Trinity Aquifer cares about this

From Bill Gordon of Stephenville

An Erath County resident has filed an application with the Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) for a commercial oil and gas waste disposal well (30,000 barrels per day maximum injection volume) to be located 8 miles Northwest of Stephenville, Texas (2 miles South of Hukabay on State Highway 108 near County Road 163).

The proposed Hukabay oil and gas waste disposal well is a high risk to our underground water supply because the location is in the Trinity Aquifer “recharge” zone.  The Trinity Aquifer flows Southeast from this location towards Stephenville and a large section of Erath County residents could be affected.

There are lots of older oil and gas wells in this area.  The RRC online database shows several gas wells (some are dry holes) near the proposed location.  One is on adjacent property and has not been plugged according to the RRC database.  Abandoned and un-plugged oil and gas wells are a major source for allowing injected oil and gas waste to migrate into the fresh water aquifers.
