Waco (McLennan County, Texas) VA Hospital has been saved

2 December 2006 at 8:26:27 AM

Good deal! It seemed pretty absurd that the Bush administration was so fired up to close the VA Hospital when we have so many veterans AND the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq are still going on.

Veterans Affairs Secretary Jim Nicholson announced Friday that the Waco VA Hospital will remain open without threat of closure or downsizing, delivering a resounding victory to community leaders and thousands of Central Texas veterans.

“Our prayers have been answered,” U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards said, leading off a triumphant gathering of about 150 with the words, “The Waco VA Hospital is here to stay.”...

For many veterans, the decision will mean they will be closer to care and the familiar doctors and staff they have relied on for years.

“This is a great victory for veterans in Central Texas and veterans across the United States who know the Waco VA Hospital provides first-class care with nationally recognized programs in mental health care and blind rehab,” Edwards said
