Oh! So the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board LIKES Bush's Spy-On-Americans Programs (and thinks you will too)

28 November 2006 at 8:20:43 AM

Big question I have is why, all of a sudden, a board which was created shortly after 9/11 by the president, and NEVER EVEN MET OR WAS FUNDED as of  February 20, 2006, is now in the public eye. Hmmm.... Could it be the investigations coming up into Bush's illegal activities which will be investigated for a change once Congress changes hands? A lame attempt at trying to sell the public on how great it is to get spied upon? You know, any more a thinking person *must* look up people who are quoted in articles in order to see which way their wind (or gas) blows from. Article entitled "Oversight board briefed on NSA surveillance program" quotes some people on the "Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board" who just eat up, with a spoon, what Bush is doing. For example:

Two of the five board members told The Associated Press on Monday they were impressed by the safeguards the government has built into the NSA's monitoring of phone calls and computer transmissions and wished the administration could tell the public more about them to ease distrust.

"If the American public, especially civil libertarians like myself, could be more informed about how careful the government is to protect our privacy while still protecting us from attacks, we'd be more reassured," said Lanny Davis, a former Clinton White House lawyer.

So what is this board, who appointed it, and who sits on it? Oh. It's a board appointed by Bush that serves at the pleasure of the president-which president? Right. The president who BROKE THE LAW. That sure makes it neutral, eh? And why is a board, instead of a COURT figuring out if Bush is doing the right thing by spying on Americans? Bush, again, BROKE THE LAW.

Board members include Carol E. Dinkins, of Texas, Chairwoman; Alan Charles Raul, of the District of Columbia, Vice Chairman; Lanny J. Davis, of Maryland; Theodore B. Olson, of Virginia; and Francis X. Taylor, of Maryland.

Let's see. Carol Dinkins... Enron lawyer and Bush supporter-she was treasurer of Bush's campaign for Texas governor.

Alan Raul,

During his tenure as Associate Counsel to President Reagan, Mr. Raul represented the White House in connection with the Iran-Contra investigations

who believes

But now, we are counting on it to prevent Americans from being killed with impunity, and to "insure domestic tranquility." In these times, the government must concentrate more on protecting concrete lives than protecting intangible privacy.

I don't think I need to tell anyone about Ted Olson, so that leaves Francis X Taylor, Brigadier General who works for GE.

Lanny Davis, every man's puppet, who was all for the Schiavo decision. Yeah, THAT man is for privacy and leaving people alone, eh? As James Wolcott wrote "Looks Liberal, Tastes Like Chicken"

As far as I'm concerned, this board and this article are an attempt by Bush PR to do some pro-active marketing of being surveilled.
