CRAZY! Nuclear Proliferation Scorecard for India, Pakistan, and Iran

Some days I feel like I"m reading jokes instead of news.

On Thursday, Pakistan says it test-fired a nuclear-capable missile.

Pakistan said it successfully test-fired a new version of its nuclear-capable medium-range missile Thursday, a show of power a day after peace talks with India that were criticized by domestic hard-liners

And Who is cooperating with Pakistan to bring them nuclear power? China.

Chinese President Hu Jintao is poised to unveil an ambitious expansion of nuclear power cooperation with Pakistan when he visits next week, testing China's balance between Pakistan and its wary neighbour, India.

THEN, the Senate okays giving nuclear materials to a country, India, that hasn't even signed the NPT.

Critics argue that the proposal shreds the world's nonproliferation regime. The extra nuclear fuel that the deal would provide, they say, could free India's domestic uranium for use in its weapons program. Pakistan and China could respond by increasing their nuclear stockpiles.

"I think this agreement is a horrible mistake," Sen. Byron Dorgan (news, bio, voting record), D-N.D., said during debate. The plan, he said, "provides a green light" for India to produce more nuclear weapons.

The bill would carve out an exemption in American law to allow U.S. shipments of civilian nuclear fuel and technology to India. In return, India would allow safeguards and inspections at its 14 civilian nuclear plants; eight military plants would be off-limits.

So, one wonders if this was done because of Pakistan's deal with China?

NOW let's look at a country that DID sign the NPT but it is THREATENED by the US that they may pre-emptively STRIKE them-Iran

Iran asserted its right to construct nuclear power plants saying these would be used only to meet domestic energy requirements"There is no reason for us to yield to illogical demands made and double standards applied by certain powers," Foreign Minister Manocheher Mottaki said in an apparent reference to the US.

Speaking at a seminar at the Indian Council for World Affairs, he said Iran had been closely co-operating with the IAEA and its inspection teams.

On the Middle East policy pursued by the US, Mottaki said, "it is perhaps better for Americans not to interfere in decision-making process of other countries."

On the first trip to Pakistan by a Chinese president in a decade, Hu is likely to announce that China will help the South Asian nation construct several nuclear plants in coming decades, said analysts and diplomatic sources.
