Trans Texas Corridor Cheerleader Ray Perryman Tries to Tell People How Great TTC is

3 November 2006 at 9:18:01 AM

What happens when you take a pro-trade, pro-business consulting group and pay it to do reports? You get a group, The Perryman Group, that has consistently touted the TTC for years.

I got to wondering who Perryman is and how long he's been chearleading for the TTC. First off, here's his client list .... hmmm, Texas Turnpike Authority, which is PART OF TXDOT, is listed among his clients. If he's getting PAID to do studies for TxDOT, it isn't like he's a disinterested, neutral party. Also, he not only contributed a sizeable chunk of change to Rick Perry's campaign but he also is the former EMPLOYER of Rick's wife Anita! (Rick Perry is quite happy to quote The Perryman Group, often, on his website.)

How does Mr Perryman feel about the farmers whose land is going to be taken from them for the benefit of Cintra running a toll road?

It is true, Perryman said, that farmers and ranchers would lose land with the Trans-Texas Corridor.

“But our analysis indicates that rural property values will rise and output will increase as a result of the corridor,” he said in his e-mail.

Yuh-huh. Yeah, SOMEBODY or some rich somebodies are going to profit. Otherwise, the TTC is a road THROUGH Texas to get someplace else. Question: WHO has the concessions that are ON the tollway? Because those are the ones that are going to be making the money from this, NOT the business in adjoining towns or areas.

Chris Hammel, chairman of the Blackland Coalition, a Bell County group opposed to the corridor, said he has not yet read Perryman’s report but has heard about it.

“I am frankly stunned that anybody could hold that a road that cuts across people’s property and doesn’t allow them access to it could somehow miraculously produce an economic benefit,” he said. “There are no access roads and few on-ramps.”

Hallsburg Mayor Mike Glockzin said the corridor “will stifle traffic on rural and farm-to-market roads because you will be limited on where you can cross.”

Perryman does study on behalf of the state about annexation

Perryman does study that asks "Do we want electricity or not?" Go look at who's on his client list.

I'm not terribly surprised to hear something so simplistic from someone who lists most of (all?) the major power providers in the state as clients. On his Web site, under clients, he lists, among others: RELIANT ENERGY, BRAZOS ELECTRIC POWER COOPERATIVE, SOUTHWEST POWER POOL, CENTRAL POWER & LIGHT COMPANY, TEXAS-NEW MEXICO POWER CO. and TU ELECTRIC.

To me, what got sent to the Waco Tribune was essentially a PR doc by a company that has clients that PAY them to get notices out to people and change their mind. Well, sorry, bub, but I'm AGAINST the Trans Texas Corridor, and all the happy-joy-joy economic press releases in the world aren't going to make me think it's right to take people's land for a toll road that will be run by a foreign company.

If you search on Perryman, you'll see lots of studies Perryman has put out for his clients. Here's a couple.
