Neil Bush's Ignite Software (No Child Left Behind) Back in the News- Bush Family Profits

Couple of background articles to read: First, Bush has a partnership with Grupo Carso of Mexico, laid off people in the US and is outsourcing the work there. (Oh! You thought it was made solely in the US? C'mon! By a BUSH??? Silly You!) Second, remember how, when people were generously donating to Katrina victims, Barbara Bush donated money as long as it went to Neil Bush's Ignite program?

Former first lady Barbara Bush donated an undisclosed amount of money to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund with specific instructions that the money be spent with an educational software company owned by her son Neil.

Since then, the Ignite Learning program has been given to eight area schools that took in substantial numbers of Hurricane Katrina evacuees.

"Mrs. Bush wanted to do something specifically for education and specifically for the thousands of students flooding into the Houston schools," said Jean Becker, former President Bush's chief of staff. "She knew that HISD was using this software program, and she's very excited about this program, so she wanted to make it possible for them to expand the use of this program."

Yuh-huh.Anyone buy that CRAP?

So, today, the LA Times has an article about how the Bush's have profited because of their NCLB software, Ignite. The history of the company reads like a Republican payback scheme. I found most interesting that doesn't seem like Neil Bush has any scruples about who will invest in the company.

Most recently he signed up Russian fugitive business tycoon Boris A. Berezovsky and Berezovsky's partner Badri Patarkatsishvili.

Who? Oh, THAT Berezovsky. I guess his money's still green, no matter what his ethics.

Some in Houston's schools question the expenditures, however. Jon Dansby was teaching at Houston's Fleming Middle School when Ignite products arrived.

"You can't even get basics like paper and scissors, and we went out and bought them. I just see red," he said.

From Talking Points Memo, a firsthand account of Neil Bush's sales pitch, complete with expletive.
