Texas District 59-Sid Miller and Ernie Casbeer on Immigration Issues and Cindy Sheehan

Ernie Casbeer, the man looking to oust Sid Miller from House District 59, wants to make one thing clear: When it comes illegal immigration and border control, Casbeer said not all immigrants are illegal, and not all illegal immigrants come from Mexico..

Casbeer said the flood of undocumented workers entering the U.S. illegally are coming in search of work.

“This is an economic problem that requires an economic solution, which must come from the U.S. Congress,” Casbeer said. “It is easy to say that if the jobs did not exist, the immigrants would stop coming, but the reality is that the jobs do exist. More jobs exist than the approximately one million legal immigrants a year, plus the U.S. workers can or will fill.”

Recently, there has even been talk of building a fence along the border to keep immigrants out of the country, but Casbeer said that’s a bad idea.

“Instead of wasting precious tax dollars building a fence that will harm the border area economy and disrupt wildlife, more enforcement agents could be employed,” he said. “More agents could tighten the border security and reduce illegal entry. Building the fence and hiring enforcement agents is the duty of the national government not the state.”

In the article, there's a laughable premise from Miller. He says that because Casbeer went to Crawford for one of Cindy's protests, that emboldens our enemies.

But Casbeer disputes that claim, saying he fully supports the troops, as well, and only went to Crawford as “a government teacher,” to see what was going on.

“I am a teacher and I wanted to be able to talk to my students about what was happening,” he said. “It does not mean I do not support our troops. I do.”
