I was amused at this article from the Cleburne Times-Review about Van Taylor being presented a wooden decoy duck from the National Republican Congressional Committee... Who presented the duck to Taylor? Why, NRCC Chairman Tom Reynolds, who, uh, is involved in the Republican Child Predator scandal- Tom Reynold's chief of staff, Kirk Fordham, resigned on Wednesday, saying that he told Dennis Hastert's office at least 2 years ago about Mark Foley. NY Citizens called on Reynolds to resign when Laura Bush went to stump for his failing campaign the other day.

"We are sick of the hypocrisy that has been laid down by the right wing of the republican party on questions like family values. We are sick of them lecturing us on how to live our lives and see this thing take place," said Richard Lipsitz.

Tom Reynolds knew last spring about the Foley emails, but

Even after Reynolds learned last spring about some inappropriate e-mail messages sent by Foley to a teenage page, Reynolds encouraged Foley to seek re-election this year, a Reynolds aide said Wednesday. Reynolds also gave Foley $5,000 in May from his own political action committee to help the Florida lawmaker's re-election bid.

Reynolds, of Clarence, Erie County, continued to back Foley because he was unaware until Friday of a separate exchange of sexually explicit instant messages that Foley had sent to underage male pages, said Reynolds spokesman L.D. Platt.

What a terrible excuse. IF Reynolds didn't think the original emails were dicey (and they were, if you've read them), then why would he tell Dennis Hastert about them at that point? They are ALL lying and ALL trying to cover up for their lack of protecting... CHILDREN.

"Mark Foley had been lying for six months at that point," Platt said. "At that point, it was a tough election there, and (Reynolds) wanted to encourage all Republican incumbents to run."

And there's the rub. Get a Republican in at all costs, damn trying to have moral values, be honest or make sure children are protected.

Reynolds said this week that he was told by Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-La., in the spring about some "overly friendly" e-mails between Foley and a page. Reynolds said he never saw the exchanges but alerted House Speaker Dennis Hastert. He said that after learning about the sexually explicit nature of some of the exchanges, he quickly called for Foley's resignation. Foley resigned Friday.

Catch that? Tom Reynolds says he TOLD DENNIS HASTERT IN THE SPRING ABOUT THE FOLEY EMAILS. It seems to me like Tom Reynolds  may be a sitting duck himself, but I digress.

Therefore, the whole act of Republicans sending a decoy duck to Van Taylor to represent Chet Edwards seems, uh, hypocritical as long as people like Dennis Hastert, John Boehnert, Tom Reynolds, and others remain in charge.

After hearing about Taylor getting the decoy duck, Edwards said:

“If I’m a sitting duck, they need some hunting practice, because they’ve missed their target in the last eight elections against me,” the 16-year House veteran said. “While Taylor has received a duck decoy, I’ve received the endorsement of the conservative, Republican-leaning U.S. Chamber of Commerce, National Independent Federation of Business, Texas Association of Business and the Texas Farm Bureau. I’ll take that deal any day.”...

Ducks aside, Edwards added that the NRCC is out of touch with issues facing Johnson County.

“I wouldn’t expect the NRCC chairman from New York to know about the work I’ve done to re-open Ham Creek Park and improve roads in Johnson County,” Edwards said. “These partisans in Washington can call me whatever they want, but the Republicans, independents and Democrats in Johnson County know how well we’ve worked together during the past two years and I look forward to continuing to work with the people of Johnson County in the next two years.”

Edwards made no comment on whether he plans to paint Taylor’s name on a duck.
