Trans Texas Corridor-Starting to Slog Through the TxDot 87 page Master Document

Here's the site to look at it all.  Then, Eye on Williamson County references the toll COSTS of the boondoggle as well as how a non-toll highway could be financed.

All Right. I'll be doing more than one post on this as I have time to read all this data dump.

From Chapter 3 p 18  Traffic and Revenue

For the 2014 horizon year, the only major road network improvements assumed in the modeling work are the Interstate Highway 35 (IH 35) widening to 6 lanes between Waco and San Antonio, and completion of State Highway 45 (SH 45) North and SH 45 South as toll facilities as per the SH 130 Development Plan.

Flagging the SH45 toll facilities to look at later-what's that?

p 18- Speed limit

TTC-35 has been assumed to be a high speed, four-lane freeway corridor comparable to an Interstate Highway. The free flow speed for TTC-35 was assumed to be 85 mph. This is higher than the typical posted speed limits and prevailing free flow speeds on IH 35 or other Interstate Highways in Texas. This higher posted speed/free flow speed will make the Corridor attractive for long distance traffic flows, even under low volume conditions.

Uh. There's a reason why the speed limits are lower on highways and surely no one believes that there would be less accidents just because people are driving on a toll road.

p 18- Is the TTC route being chosen because it's the best thing for citizens and a good route for THEM? No, it's being chosen, because Cintra will get the tolls, FOR MAXIMUM FINANCIAL BENEFIT-from YOU, the hapless rider on the toll.

It is assumed that the initial segments of TTC-35 would be in operation during year 2014. For the
purpose of the initial forecasting work, all segments are assumed to be in place and the Corridor
operates as a continuous network. This approach has been used to identify the segments with the best revenue potential and to allow for an initial assessment of financial feasibility.

Maps-you can see the proposed routes (the NEW ones) on pages 19-21. I'm going to put some scaled down versions of the maps just for reference but of course you can see a beter view in the PDF

The trick now is to try to match up these locations with the actual map. I'm going to be concentrating on DFW south. Tell me if you see what I see.

As near as I can tell, it looks like, on the west side of I-20, the TTC would start up north somewhere around Weatherford (on my big map it looks more like around White Settlement) . I notice that 171 meets up in Weatherford and goes down to Cleburne, then someplace down to Hillsboro. Does this mean that 171 would be converted into toll/TTC?IF it IS White Settlement I'm looking at, then it appears it would take out Boyd, and go somewhere around Decatur and Slidell to Gainesville. On the Sherman side, it looks like it would go someplace around Bells and then cut down east of Greenville (what's that, Cumby?) and then near Kaufman before meeting up the I-35 split near HIllsboro, although it looks like it takes out land on the east side

Well, that's all I can stand for right now!
