Huh? How is it ETHICAL to not have to detail Cash Gifts on Financial Disclosure Forms?

Not only is that bizarre but also that it's the TEXAS ETHICS COMMISSION that says so. I can tell you that the Ethics Commission is sure gonna hear from me tomorrow for their DRAFT opinion-seems to me they have a DRAFT  through the holes in their heads where the brains ought to be.

What happened is that Bob Perry, homebuilder from Houston, gave ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS to a government employee, Bill Cerverha. Ceverha, you might remember, is the man that invested in James Leininger's company, who lost a judgement and tanked the teacher's retirement system. And, oops, he also failed to disclose donations to TRMPAC.

Texas Ethics Commission says in this draft opinion, well, they have to say if they GOT a gift, but they don't have to say HOW MUCH it is.

By law, officials must disclose anyone who gives them a gift worth more than $250 and a "description" of the gift. In the opinion, ethics commission lawyers concluded that a description of a gift of money would require only the words "currency," "check" or "money order" and not the amount.

Craig McDonald of Texans for Public Justice, which has been lobbying for rules requiring the full disclosure of cash gifts, called the opinion absurd and dangerous.

"If the Texas Ethics Commission adopts this opinion on Friday, public officials can take millions of dollars in cash and legally write 'currency' on their disclosure forms," McDonald said.

Now HERE's IRONY

Yeah? How is letting politicians skim off the big bucks and not have to tell how much of a bribe they're taking be "promoting public confidence"? PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFt
