Good smackdown on Van Taylor's flimsy reason for moving to West, Texas in the Waco Tribune.

Within a month after he bought a house in McLennan County last summer, Republican Party leaders were already talking about Iraq war veteran Van Taylor’s potential as a challenger to U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco.

Recent comments from the Republican Party leader responsible for helping the GOP hold the U.S. House from a Democratic charge this fall have raised new questions about why Taylor moved to McLennan County.

National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Reynolds said he personally recruited Taylor to challenge Edwards in the Central Texas district and was involved from the “earliest days.” But it’s not clear if that recruitment occurred before or after Taylor bought a house near West.

Edwards tells Taylor to cough up his airline tickets and schedule records! Then Taylor gripes about the fact that Edwards has a home in Virginia and leases his home in Waco. Edwards:

“If Mr. Taylor lived in our district nearly a decade ago, he would have heard my public announcement that Lea Ann and I would put our children in school in Virginia because unfortunately the U.S. Government is in Washington and not in Waco, Texas,” Edwards said. “If Mr. Taylor wants to criticize me for wanting to be involved in my children’s day-to-day lives, that’s a reflection on his values, not mine.”
