VIDEO Short from Local DFW News about Eagle Mountain Lake Park, Texas

I was curious to see how local news would treat the news that Perry, who not only was (and is) trying to sell off state park land, but also was actively behind trying to sell off Eagle Mountain Lake, had done an about-face (dare we call it a flip-flop? Or maybe more like a rat scurrying out of the corner once a bright light shines on it) about turning it into a park. I mean, the man was CAUGHT by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram through his emails showing that he was the one responsible for trying to sell them.

Amazingly, at least for the time I watched, Fox News locally had the best coverage (quite a change from Fox News cable, which we have blocked from our tv), which included Chris Bell's comments.

You remember I said yesterday that when Goodhair found out that Chris Bell was having a press conference at Eagle Mountain Lake, he arranged to have HIS half an hour before, but then said, oh, that was just coincidence. Right. As I said yesterday, Perry was bound to try to take credit for something he was actually AGAINST.

Here's what Bud Kennedy of the Fort Worth Star Telegram said about these shenanigans

Before seven TV cameras, three radio microphones and a north-side conference room full of gray business suits and power ties, Gov. Rick Perry announced a deal to save a long-unfinished lakefront park as a nature preserve, not to sell it off for a luxury home development.

Fifteen miles away, at a fishing camp along the lakeshore, Democratic challenger Chris Bell had called a news conference to criticize Perry. The turnout: two TV stations, two Star-Telegram writers and about 25 Democratic supporters, none wearing a power tie. Or any tie.

While Perry basked in TV news lights and declared "a victory for park enthusiasts" -- to be exact, that would be a victory over Perry himself, since his office had authorized the possible sale of the 400 acres -- Bell stood at the end of a dirt road and delivered a stinging attack to almost nobody besides a corgi dog running loose at his feet.

Two months before Election Day, Perry's "deathbed conversion" helped him decide to preserve the park, Bell said. "Rick Perry had to be exposed for trying to sell this off. ... I don't think anybody should be fooled by this. We stopped this one."

By calling his news conference 30 minutes before Bell's, Perry had taken away not only the issue but also the TV cameras.

More from Chris Bell

Bell replied: "He's had six years to fix this mess. Why should we trust him now?"

Bell said Perry should halt state consideration to sell or close other little-used parks and historical sites, and restore money from sporting-goods taxes and Keep Texas Wild license plate fees, both meant to pay for parks but now partially diverted for other purposes.
