Hay Barn Mulch No Longer Taken To Dump - (Somervell- 4/27/2017)

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the Somervell County Convenience Station, one can have the county people fill up a pickup with mulch. I usually go 2-3 times a year to get mulch to put around trees and bushes. My preference for mulch has been the huge pile that comes from the Somervell County Expo Center.

This Tuesday I went to get some mulch and there was no hay barn mulch. I found out that Somervell County had decided to make a deal with Jimmy Gosdin to pick up the mulch, don't know what he does with it. I ended up getting some of the coarser chopped up tree mulch which actually was great for putting around all the trees.

I still would like some hay barn shavings, so was told by Frank Abbott that, assuming there is an event that lasts more than 1 day (ie, overnight) that uses barn materials, I can come by on a Tuesday morning and someone that works there will come load the pickup. Gosdin, according to Abbott, usually comes on Tuesday evening or Wednesday.

Having Gosdin haul off the expo barn cleanout saves about a day and a half of manhours. Reason is that when the Expo did the work, it took 2 people to load and drive 2 trucks to take to the dump, time that kept those 2 people from working at the Expo itself. That's not to mention the cost of diesel, etc.

Anyway, it's a good compromise and I mention as I don't believe I am the only one that loves the expo hay barn mulch.
