UPDATE Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Officials determined that a horse near Cleburne died Monday of wounds suffered from a barbed wire fence and wasn’t attacked by a mountain lion, as initially suspected.

Evidence indicated the horse had become entangled in the fence, according to a statement Wednesday from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

The owner had said previously that she thought a mountain lion killed her horse.

"I just want everyone to be aware that there’s at least one mountain lion running around out here who’s not content to eat bunnies. It just worries me because I have grandkids. If this lion can do this to a 1,500-pound big, healthy quarter horse it can attack a human just as easily.”
