Ruminations of the Easily Amused for 5/15/2017

This is the busiest I've been in some years, mostly with outside projects. Made a chicken waterer and chicken feeder for the poultry, plus busy mowing, trimming stuff, putting out mulch, and general yard cleaning.

I got a robocall today talking about calling my Texas Lege reps and telling them no on a bill about doctors and board certifications. I wasn't about to say yes or no on a bill I didn't even read myself and the robocall didn't mention the bill. I called up Sheffield's office and found out through a knowledgeable office person. The bill is SB1148. I found a number of references for the bill but none against. So WHO is against the bill and WHY????

Ugh. Miss USA. Go away. Healthcare is not a privilege and shame on you for saying that.

Jeff Sessions wants to be cruel and inhumane and has the position to be so.

Mandatory federal drug sentencing is unforgiving. A person with one prior drug felony who is charged with possession of 10 grams of LSD, 50 grams of methamphetamine, or 280 grams of crack cocaine with intent to distribute faces 20 years to life. With two priors — no matter how long ago they occurred — the penalty is life without parole.  As one federal judge has written, these are sentences that “no one — not even the prosecutors themselves — thinks are appropriate.”

They waste human potential. They harm the 5 million children who have or have had a parent in prison — including one in nine black children.  And they wreak economic devastation on poor communities. Studies have found, for example, that formerly incarcerated employees make 10 to 40 percent less money than similar workers with no history of incarceration and that the probability of a family being in poverty increases by almost 40 percent when a father is imprisoned.

This is pretty great! Texas Lege - legislators target voter fraud at nursing homes

State law allows Texans with disabilities, those who are at least 65 years old, or those who plan to be out of the county during voting to request a mail-in ballot. That typically includes voters at residential care facilities. Huffman’s bill would change the process for homes that request five or more absentee ballots. During early voting, counties would send election judges to deliver the ballots and oversee voting at those homes, providing assistance if need be. And political parties could send registered poll watchers, just as they do at regular polling places.

Qualified voters who might have forgotten to request an absentee ballot could fill out such paperwork on site and cast a vote during the election judges’ visit.

“This is just going to help seniors vote. It’s going to allow them to participate in greater numbers,” said Rep. Eric Johnson, a Dallas Democrat who authored the House legislation with Oliverson, and has closely followed the Dallas fraud investigation.

Oh, Geez, Wish Grandpa would retire and just golf all the time like he wants. At what point will the Republican party quit ignoring this clown? They join themselves to his irresponsible actions by not acting as a separate branch of government.

Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian foreign minister and ambassador

President Trump revealed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in a White House meeting last week, according to current and former U.S. officials, who said that Trump’s disclosures jeopardized a critical source of intelligence on the Islamic State.

The information Trump relayed had been provided by a U.S. partner through an intelligence-sharing arrangement considered so sensitive that details have been withheld from allies and tightly restricted even within the U.S. government, officials said.

The partner had not given the United States permission to share the material with Russia, and officials said that Trump’s decision to do so risks cooperation from an ally that has access to the inner workings of the Islamic State. After Trump’s meeting, senior White House officials took steps to contain the damage, placing calls to the CIA and National Security Agency.

“This is code-word information,” said a U.S. official familiar with the matter, using terminology that refers to one of the highest classification levels used by American spy agencies. Trump “revealed more information to the Russian ambassador than we have shared with our own allies.”

Supreme Court deals blow to Voter ID law in NC, turns away hearing

Kellyanne Conway secretly hates Trump?

"'I have to take a shower because it feels so dirty to be saying what I’m saying,'” she continued, mockingly quoting Conway. "I guess she’s just used to it now.”

I love this picture
