Glen Rose Medical Center's really been on a roll lately. Between the PR director covertly bringing flyers to distribute at business that denigrate Luminant, to putting flyers on everyone's car during graduation, to Ron Hankins, Somervell County Hospital Board president, calling Luminant "evil", insinuating Luminant's management is stupid, and that they're bullies, to this now, I can't help but wonder two things. First, why has GRMC apparently decided that the best way to fight the Luminant property tax issue is to trash Luminant, and second, why is an employee of the hospital, particularly one who has the PR (PUBLIC RELATIONS) job, so prominently bad mouthing Luminant. I know that GRMC has an employee code of conduct, doesn't Ray Reynolds care about this? (Apparently not, Ray Reynolds said in 2015 that the code of conduct had never been used to discipline anyone). I certainly have not heard a discussion at any board meeting that the way to handle the Luminant appeal is to try to blacken their name. (One might even say "bully", eh?) Shortsighted at the very least, and a lack of common sense. Is it the PR person's job description to secretly tear down companies that don't square up 100 percent with GRMC, to post about them in unflattering ways on public Facebook groups? At some point the Luminant appeal will be over, one way or the other. Wonder if Luminant will be thrilled that they were trashed both behind the scenes and publicly, including at open meetings of the board by Hankins, and want to go back to the relationship where they not only paid property taxes but gave Somervell County a lot of great things (most recently the $50 thou grant that Somervell County used to buy a drone.)
Here's what Lisa Portman Andersen posted, sent to me by an interested person who wondered why
Isn't that just great? The PR person is using her position to, not merely publicize that the NRC (which is NOT Luminant but the government entity charged with oversight) is holding a safety meeting re: Comanche Peak in Granbury, but insinuate that there is something underhanded and nefarious about their doing so. NRC.GOV has had meetings before in Granbury that, gasp, didn't involve property taxes.
The casual reader of Andersen's comment might wonder if NRC.GOV has joined in the lawsuit against Somervell County appraisal district or is somehow doing this at the behest of Luminant (because, you know, Ron Hankins thinks they're "evil") The appeals case on the 10th court of appeals website is styled Luminant Generation Company LLC v Somervell Central Appraisal District. Big nope. The company that owns Comanche Peak, NOT the regulatory agency, is in this lawsuit.
For Andersen to imply that the NRC.GOV, which is the government regulatory commission, somehow purposely decided to meet in Granbury to retaliate against Somervell County, shows a lack of spending some little time on the NRC website to see what its purpose is.
The NRC is headed by a five-member Commission. The President designates one member to serve as Chairman and official spokesperson. The Commission as a whole formulates policies and regulations governing nuclear reactor and materials safety, issues orders to licensees, and adjudicates legal matters brought before it. TheExecutive Director for Operations (EDO) carries out the policies and decisions of the Commission and directs the activities of the program offices.
The offices reporting to the EDO ensure that the commercial use of nuclear materials in the United States is safely conducted. As part of the regulatory process, the four regional offices conduct inspection, enforcement, and emergency response programs for licensees within their borders.
Again, should the person responsible for Public Relations and Community Education, be spreading baloney like this? I have always thought a PR person was there to not only maintain a positive image of the entity they work for, as well as work for harmonious business and community relationships, rather than one who secretly as well as publicly undermines other entities in a negative way.
This is from the GRMC contact page
Have heard informally that this person may be one that will actually be losing her position in August 2016, not because of these actions, but because of the dire straits and need to lay people off.
And what about the Somervell County Hospital District Board? Shouldn't the plan of how to present this very serious issue of the taxes and lawsuit be brought up and discussed at an open, public meeting, rather than allowing rogue employees to, apparently impulsively, act on their own ill-considered initiative? Or does Ray Reynolds believe these actions are good ideas and approve of them?
