Ruminations of the Easily Amused for 5/26/2016

27 May 2016 at 3:40:35 PM

Got a tremendous burst of energy in the last month or so, going back to video recording some of the government meetings I enjoy going to. I also had this huge job of updating some software I'm using for a project. I have a lot of customized code so I couldn't simply copy over the new files but had to go look at each changed file to see what to keep and what to change, etc. About done now. My next project is going to be to build a dog shelter roof on the back. I already have some treated wood, 8 foot in length that I can use to make the frame, then will probably get some inexpensive thin plywood to use as a roof and put roll roofing on top of that. I've gone through a number of iterations of what to do for the dog's sleeping area, complicated by one dog liking to try to jump out if she hears firecrackers, or people shooting, etc. Anyway, will do a separate post on this when I start working on it, need to get a few drilling parts first. Times like this make me grateful that I had a dad that not only was a great handyman but encouraged me to do the same.

I simply can't believe all the rain from yesterday and today. The ponds around her are the most full they've been in a very long time. Sunny now and muggy as all get out.

Have been playing a game called "Hive". First time got whupped by my other half. I'm now practicing on my ipad so that I can figure out strategies to win against him next time.

Would you buy a self-driving car? Provided it's safe and can get around safety situations (like pedestrians), I would. What a treat!

Clinton's email sage just gets worse and worse

Bentel served as the chief of “Information Resource Management” — essentially, the top official in charge of internal communications, security issues and record-keeping — inside the State Department’s Executive Secretariat, the professional support staff for the secretary of state. In late 2010, according to the inspector general’s report, two staffers inside his office, in separate meetings, raised concerns that Clinton’s private emails could contain government records that needed to be preserved — a standard requirement under a 1950 law known as the Federal Records Act.

One of the staffers told the inspector general that Bentel responded that Clinton’s private email account had been “reviewed and approved by Department legal staff” and “that the matter was not to be discussed any further.” In fact, according to the inspector general’s report, State Department lawyers had never approved Clinton’s use of a private email server for government communications, nor were they ever consulted about it.

The second staffer who raised concerns told the inspector general that Bentel responded that the mission of the office “is to support the Secretary and instructed the staff never to speak of the Secretary’s personal email system again.”

From Brains and Eggs-this makes me laugh.

and Jonathan Turley

The report clearly establishes a number of damaging facts. First, the State Department made clear that a personal server was not allowed and would present serious security risks for the country. Second, Clinton never asked or received permission for such a server. Third, the State Department would
never have approved such a server. Fourth, Clinton’s objections to using the secure State Department system was not convenience (as she previously stated) but access to her personal emails. Fifth, her actions failed to comply with the Federal Records Act. Sixth, Clinton suspected that she was being hacked but continued to use her personal server exclusively. Finally, the report indicates that Clinton did not fully cooperate with the subsequent inquiries and investigation.

The contradictions with past statements are glaring and will not help Clinton already historic lows for trustworthiness or honesty with voters. For example, in March 2015 Clinton stated at a press conference that:
